MEDICAL MICRONEEDLING
Medical Microneedling: Advanced Skin Rejuvenation for Scars, Wrinkles, and Texture
Medical microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that involves creating tiny channels in the skin. This process stimulates the production of growth factors and activates fibroblasts, encouraging the natural healing process to naturally generate new collagen and elastin. As a result, the skin undergoes effective rejuvenation, repair, and revitalization without disturbing the skin's microbiome. The treatment also enhances the absorption of topical serums, improving their effectiveness, hence adding on a booster is recommended.

HOW DOES MEDICAL MICRONEEDLING WORK?
Medical Microneedling stimulates the skin's natural wound healing response, which occurs in four distinct stages::
Hemostasis (Immediate)
This phase occurs immediately after microneedling and lasts for a few minutes to hours. Platelets form clots at the micro-injury sites, releasing growth factors to initiate skin repair. Some of the key growth factors include:
-
Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) – Stimulates increased desquamation, reduces pigmentation, and improves acne. Plays a critical role in controlling the function of the epidermis.
-
Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF) – Promotes epidermal wound healing and corrects melanosome absorption. Aids in expelling congestion in the skin.
-
Transforming Growth Factor Beta (TGF-β) – Controls cell proliferation, differentiation, and wound healing.Includes subtypes:
-
TGF B1 & B2: Trigger emergency wound healing, often resulting in scar formation.
-
TGF B3: Encourages scarless healing through natural collagen synthesis.
-
-
Melanocyte Growth Factor (MeGF) – Regulates melanocyte behavior, which is essential for pigmentation control.
-
Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF) – Enhances collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production, improving skin structure and hydration.
-
Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) – Supports angiogenesis and vascular repair, ensuring proper nutrient and oxygen delivery to treated areas.
-
Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) – Assists in maintaining proper vascular function and promotes tissue repair.
-
Macrophage Growth Factor (MDGF) – Aids in digesting cellular debris and foreign substances, enhancing skin repair and renewal.
Inflammation (1-3 Days)
Neutrophils and macrophages flood the treated area, cleaning debris and bacteria while releasing cytokines and growth factors. This stage stimulates collagen and elastin production and prepares the skin for regeneration.
Proliferation (3-7 Days; Best time for LED Light Therapy)
Fibroblasts become active, producing new collagen and elastin to form the skin’s connective tissue. Angiogenesis (the creation of new blood vessels) begins, enhancing blood flow and nutrient delivery to the treated area.
Remodelling (3-6 Months)
Newly formed collagen is reorganized and strengthened, resulting in firmer, smoother, and more elastic skin. Over time, scars, wrinkles, and uneven texture are significantly reduced, and long-lasting improvements are achieved.

MEDICAL MICRONEEDLING VS. COSMETIC MICRONEEDLING
Medical microneedling is a professional treatment that utilizes longer needle depths, typically 1.5mm to 3mm, to penetrate the dermis and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. This deeper penetration targets structural skin layers, addressing concerns such as deep acne scars, wrinkles, and skin laxity. Clinical studies demonstrate that the most significant improvements in skin texture and rejuvenation occur with needle depths of 1.5mm or longer, making medical microneedling the gold standard for achieving measurable, long-term results.
In contrast, cosmetic microneedling involves shorter needles (up to 0.3mm) that only impact the epidermis. While cosmetic microneedling may enhance product absorption and provide mild textural improvements, it does not reach the dermis, where true collagen production and skin repair occur.
Why Medical Microneedling is Superior:
-
Clinically Proven Depth: Most medical studies confirm that needle depths of 1.5mm or longer are necessary to stimulate the skin’s natural wound-healing response, leading to significant collagen production.
-
Targeted Dermal Repair: Penetrates the dermis to effectively treat deeper concerns such as scarring, wrinkles, and skin laxity.
-
Professional Expertise: Performed by trained clinicians, ensuring safety, precision, and optimal results.
-
Customizable Treatments: Needle depth can be tailored to the specific condition and treatment area, enhancing effectiveness.
-
Long-Lasting Results: Backed by science, medical microneedling delivers noticeable and lasting improvements that cosmetic methods cannot achieve.
For individuals seeking advanced, science-backed skin rejuvenation, medical microneedling offers superior outcomes by addressing the structural layers of the skin that are key to long-term repair and rejuvenation.

FAQs
Does microneedling really work?
Yes, microneedling is clinically proven to work through thousands of peer-reviewed medical studies. Multiple sessions are often needed to achieve the best results, and the effectiveness can vary based on individual skin concerns and skin types.
Additionally we invest in TGA-approved and FDA-cleared machines and products to ensure the highest safety and efficacy standards for our patients. By using advanced, clinically validated equipment, we maximize the treatment's ability to stimulate collagen production and promote long-term skin rejuvenation, delivering noticeable improvements tailored to your unique skin needs.
How many microneedling sessions do I need?
The number of sessions required depends on the condition being treated. Generally, 3 to 6 sessions spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results. For more severe issues like deep wrinkles or acne scars, more sessions may be needed.
What should I expect after microneedling?
After microneedling, your skin may appear red and feel like a mild sunburn for a few hours up to a few days. Some people may experience slight swelling, dryness, or flaking as the skin heals. Results typically improve over time, with full effects visible a few weeks after treatment.
How long does it take to see results from microneedling?
Initial improvements in skin texture can be seen within a week, but collagen remodeling continues for 3-12 months. Full results are generally visible after 4-6 weeks, with continued improvement after multiple sessions.
Can microneedling help with acne scars?
Yes, microneedling is highly effective in treating acne scars by breaking down scar tissue and stimulating the formation of new, healthy skin.
Is there any downtime after microneedling?
There is minimal downtime after microneedling. Most people experience redness and mild sensitivity for 24 to 48 hours, and normal activities can be resumed immediately, though it's advised to avoid sun exposure and makeup for the first 24 hours.
What should I do before and after microneedling?
Before: Avoid retinoids, exfoliants, highly active skincare and sun exposure for at least 72 hours before the procedure. Cleanse your face thoroughly before your appointment and keep hydrated. After: Keep your skin clean, avoid makeup, strenuous activities, heat and sun exposure for at least 24 hours, and use a medical-grade post-treatment cream. Follow the aftercare advice provided by your Dermal Clinician.
Who should not get microneedling?
Microneedling is not recommended for people with active skin infections, severe acne, open wounds, or those prone to keloid scarring. Pregnant or breastfeeding women and individuals on certain medications like blood thinners should consult with a professional before undergoing the treatment.
How long do the results of medical microneedling last?
With proper skincare maintenance, the results of medical microneedling can last for several months. Collagen and elastin production continues for up to 3–6 months after the treatment, leading to ongoing improvements in skin firmness, texture, and tone. To maintain long-term results, it is recommended to incorporate a medical-grade skincare routine that includes hydrating serums, antioxidants, SPF 50+ sunscreen, and regular microneedling sessions every 4–6 weeks. Lifestyle factors such as sun exposure, diet, smoking, alcohol consumption, and hormonal changes can affect how long the results last and the overall effectiveness of the treatment.
Is medical microneedling painful?
Medical microneedling can cause mild discomfort, but it is generally well-tolerated. To ensure client comfort, a topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure to minimize pain. Most clients describe the sensation as a light prickling or vibration. The depth of the needles can be adjusted according to the treatment area and skin concern, which may result in slightly more sensitivity in delicate areas like the face. While some clients may experience mild redness or tightness afterward, this typically subsides within a day or two.
Can I wear makeup after medical microneedling?
It is recommended to avoid wearing makeup for at least 24–48 hours after medical microneedling. This allows the skin to fully recover and prevents irritation or infection while the micro-channels in the skin are still open. Applying makeup too soon can clog these micro-channels, leading to potential irritation or breakouts. Instead, focus on applying hydrating serums, moisturizers, and SPF to support the healing process. Once the skin barrier has fully repaired, makeup can be safely reapplied.
