Plasma Fibroblast: Non-Surgical Skin Tightening for Wrinkles, Lifting, and Rejuvenation

Plasma Fibroblast Therapy is a non-surgical skin tightening and rejuvenation treatment that uses a plasma device to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin’s surface. These micro-injuries stimulate fibroblast activity, triggering the production of collagen, elastin, and essential proteins responsible for firmer, more youthful skin. This treatment offers a safe and effective alternative to invasive procedures like facelifts, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), and wrinkle reduction treatments.

A TGA-approved class 2 medical device is used by a university-qualified Dermal Clinician to ensure a safe and effective treatment.

Plasma Fibroblast: How Does it Work?

1. Plasma Energy Generation

Plasma fibroblast therapy uses a handheld device to create an arc of plasma energy that interacts with the skin without direct contact. This energy causes controlled micro-injuries on the epidermis and upper dermis, triggering a natural skin repair response.

2. Skin Sublimation and Contraction

The plasma energy causes a process called sublimation, where the outer layer of skin turns directly into gas, leaving behind small carbon crusts (tiny scabs). This sublimation tightens and contracts nearby skin fibers, resulting in an immediate lifting effect that reduces sagging.

3. Activation of Fibroblast Cells

The controlled injuries activate fibroblast cells in the dermis. These cells produce essential structural proteins like collagen, elastin, and components of the extracellular matrix (ECM). The fibroblast activity strengthens the skin, making it firmer, tighter, and more elastic.

4. Collagen Remodeling and Elastin Synthesisn

The body's natural repair process kicks in, producing Type I and Type III collagen to replace old, damaged tissue. This collagen matures over time, giving the skin more structure and strength. Elastin production is also triggered, which helps the skin regain its flexibility and youthful bounce.

5. Formation and Shedding of Carbon Crusts

Small, visible carbon crusts form on the skin where the micro-injuries occurred. These crusts act as a protective layer for the newly forming skin beneath. The crusts naturally fall off after 5–10 days, revealing smoother, healthier skinunderneath.

6. Long-Term Skin Tightening and Rejuvenation

While some tightening is immediate, the most significant results develop over time as collagen remodeling continues for over 6 weeks to 6 months, delivering long-term skin tightening and rejuvenation. The skin becomes progressively firmer, smoother, and tighter. This long-term effect reduces wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging while improving the overall texture of the skin.

FAQs

How long does it take to see results from Plasma Fibroblast?

Some results are visible immediately due to the instant skin contraction that occurs during the treatment. However, the most dramatic results develop over the next 6 to 12 weeks as collagen and elastin production increases. The skin becomes progressively tighter, firmer, and smoother over time. Full results can be seen after 3–6 months as collagen remodeling continues.

Is Plasma Fibroblast painful?

The procedure is not considered painful but may cause mild discomfort. Before treatment, a topical numbing cream is applied to the skin to reduce sensitivity. Clients typically experience a tingling, warm, or light "zapping" sensation as the plasma arc interacts with the skin. The numbing cream ensures most clients feel little to no pain during the procedure.

What can I expect during the Plasma Fibroblast procedure?

  1. Consultation: A thorough consutation will be performed 4 weeks prior to the Plasma Fibroblast procedure to ensure you are suitable for the procedure. You will be given skincare products to strengthen and prepare your skin for the procedure as well as instructions on how to obtain numbing cream.

  2. Treatment: After the application of numbing cream your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and disinfected. The plasma pen will then be used to create small micro-injuries on the surface of the skin, forming carbon crusts at the contact points.

  3. Post-Treatment: A soothing balm is applied, and aftercare instructions are provided to support healing.

What is the downtime after Plasma Fibroblast?

After Plasma Fibroblast, the skin will form small, brown scabs known as carbon crusts, which act as a protective barrier for the healing skin underneath. These crusts typically fall off naturally after 5–10 days. During this period, you may also experience:

  • Redness (similar to mild sunburn)

  • Swelling (particularly around the eyes)

  • Tightness or dryness in the treated area
The full healing process may take up to 2 weeks, with residual pinkness or slight redness lasting for a few more weeks. Following aftercare instructions is essential to ensure optimal results.

What aftercare is required?

Post-treatment care is crucial to prevent scarring, hyperpigmentation, or infection. Follow these guidelines:

  • Avoid picking or scratching the carbon crusts — let them fall off naturally.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 6–8 weeks and wear SPF 50+ daily.

  • Use gentle cleansers and avoid exfoliating or using active ingredients like retinoids or AHAs.

  • Apply a hydrating balm or soothing cream as advised by your clinician.
By following these instructions, you’ll support the skin's natural healing process and achieve the best possible results.

How many sessions of Plasma Fibroblast are needed?

Most clients achieve noticeable results after just 1 session. However, for more severe issues like deep wrinkles, stretch marks, or severe skin laxity, 2–3 sessions may be recommended, spaced 8–12 weeks apart.

Can I wear makeup after Plasma Fibroblast?

It is recommended to avoid makeup for at least 5–7 days or until the carbon crusts naturally fall off. Applying makeup prematurely can block the skin’s healing process, increase the risk of infection, and delay results. Once the crusts have shed, gentle, non-comedogenic makeup can be used.

Is Plasma Fibroblast better than Botox or fillers?

While Botox and fillers provide temporary volume and wrinkle reduction, Plasma Fibroblast stimulates the skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin, offering a more long-term solution. Unlike Botox, which requires touch-ups every 3–6 months, Plasma Fibroblast results last 2–3 years. It also improves skin texture and tone, something Botox and fillers cannot do.

Who should avoid Plasma Fibroblast?

Plasma Fibroblast is not suitable for:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women

  • People with pacemakers or other implanted medical devices

  • Those with active skin infections, rashes, or open wounds

  • People with Fitzpatrick skin types V and VI (higher risk of hyperpigmentation)

  • Individuals who have used Accutane within the last 12 months
